Dealer nearby sent me a letter, telling me they’ll buy my pt off me. Is this even a good deal? It needs a new PCM, besides that its functioning. It'll even start every 5th-7th time I try. Just wondering how good of a deal these things are.

They “can” offer you top dollar for your trade in. Keyword being “can”. They wont.

It is mainly a ploy to try and get you into a new vehicle with financing.

Anytime a dealer says “I need *insert your car here* for my inventory and I absoutlely need to buy it off you!” it’s total bullshit. First, no they don’t, and second, if for some unknown reason they did, they’d go to auction and buy one for 2/3 the price they’d give you for yours.

Unfortunately, these are bait and switch techniques to get you into the dealer 99% of the time; they’re deliberately vague, and make no promises so they don’t have to give you a good deal; it’s also worth noting they likely aren’t as desperate for an ‘08 PT as the letter makes out.

These messages are system generated, they do not strictly speaking, need YOUR car ... they are just trying to get you to trade it in on a new one. It’s called “equity mining” and my company’s system allows them to do this.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry to everyone :-/

^This, they can get as many as they want at auction. They just want to get you into one of their cars.

The grammar when it says my name is really creepy. “ If Josh is....” Or “can you try and contact Josh...”

The envelope was addressed to me...who else would get it?

Should I call them up and ask for a brown, diesel wagon?

this is my goto when I go to a dealer with overly pushy salesman. “tell you what, what I’m really looking for is a low mile Mercedes 300e diesel estate manual, if you have one on the lot I would love to see it.” alternative choices are:

X-type wagon manual

Is300 manual

IS300 sportcross

Got a similar letter from our Toyota dealer saying they wanted to buy my car. Of course, they tried to immediately get me interested in buying new when I got there. That’s what the letter was for. However, they still did make me a cash offer to buy the car when I said I was not trading in. I didn’t take the offer then, but the next year, when we were buying a new car not from them, I went back to see what they wanted to offer cash, and it was better than I could get at any trade in. So, I sold it to them.

Sometimes they really do want your car just for its own sake if they see there is a good market for the model and their records show yours is low mileage and in good shape.

It’s funny cuz this dealership actually has a popcorn machine in their lobby.

So...if they can put me in a car where I can make the sane monthly payments, I'm game. So what can they give me for a car that's already paid off? I'm eager for a truck....a free truck.
